Thermal Supply and Goodman recognize that the online sale of HVAC equipment can negatively impact our valued customers and their profitability. In an effort to mitigate the potential harm of online sales, Goodman has instituted strategies to protect the dealer and local distributor:
• All Goodman unitary products require that a licensed dealer install the products in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local codes. If a dealer is not involved with the installation of the product, the warranty does not apply.
• Goodman has instituted a Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policy that requires any advertised sales of equipment to be at or above a set multiplier of their list price. This price is generally higher than what an HVAC dealer will pay for the product from a local distributor.
Unfortunately online sales are a reality. With regards to sites such as ebay.com, amazon.com and Walmart.com, many of the sales are by third party retailers that are loosely affiliated with the site. For example, here is information on Walmart.com’s “Marketplace Retailers” –

Due to outside influences, economic pressure, and industry challenges this has been, and will continue to be, an uphill battle for all manufacturers. Our goal is to help local dealers compete in an ever changing marketplace and we will continue to do all that we can to protect these dealers.
